NHQHA Rules & Registration Requirements

1) For a horse to be registered with NHQHA one parent or two grandparents must be registered with the American Quarter Horse Association.

2) Appropriate ownership, registration numbers and pedigree information of the AQHA mare(s) and/or stallion(s) as listed on all Breeders Certificates will be verified with AQHA.

3) Please send 4 images, left profile, right profile as well as both rear and frontal views. Any photo’s sent will become property of the NHQHA and will not be returned.

4) Owner of the horse being registered must submit a completed registration application. The owner of the horse being registered is the owner of the dam at time of foaling, or in the case of a lease agreement, the person who was leasing the dam at time of foaling. (For information on leases see #6) For registration of horses that have been sold prior to a registration application being submitted, a signed and dated bill of sale must accompany the registration application. On this bill of sale it must state the horse’s parentage and that parentage must match the parents on the registration application. The breeders certificate on the application must show sire & dam and be signed by the owners of both the sire and the dam. In the case of a horse being registered on the basis of two AQHA grandparents a completed supplemental breeder's certificate with the proper signatures must also be submitted. A supplemental breeder's certificate is not necessary if both parents are registered with NHQHA.

5) There are no color, type or height requirements to register with NHQHA.

6) When a horse has been leased, a Lease Authorization form must be completed and signed by both the owner of the horse and the person leasing the horse. Any foals sired or produced during the lease period cannot be registered by the lessee until this form is received. If the person leasing an NHQHA registered horse is showing, a Lease Authorization form must be filed before any awards earned by the horse during the lease period are forwarded to the person leasing. If a horse is being leased by two people, one for breeding and one for showing it must be indicated which lessee is using the horse for breeding so that the resultant foal is registered under the appropriate lessee. If a Lease Authorization form is not filed with NHQHA the horse will not acquire points while ridden in shows by the lessee and if the horse is being bred the lessee will not be listed as the owner of the resultant foal, instead the owner of the horse will be the owner of the foal and/or any awards will also be forwarded to the owner.

7) If for any reason it is found that a horse has been registered under false pretenses, registration of the horse in question will be canceled and the person liable for the false pretense will not be granted membership nor will he/she be allowed to register any horses with NHQHA in the future.

8) Fees are as follows: (please note - there will be a $30.00 service charge for all returned checks, for faster service use money order, certified check, Mastercard or Visa), (also note - membership is one full year from date of receipt of membership application.)
